References to other schools in the introduction

Why are there references to other schools in the introduction? The block tells us nothing about the subject of the article. Similar blocks are not featured on the articles about the other schools, and it doesn't follow any convention I am aware of. Any objections to removing it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jgimbi (talkcontribs) 00:57, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Why don't you ask User:Polytech1 who added that content in this pair of edits? -- DanielPenfield (talk) 02:25, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
Previously, before my edit, this was the text:

Along with New York Institute of Technology, it is one of the only two institutes of technology in New York.

I added other schools to broaden and expand upon what was already there. I hadn't seen any lead like that for any university before, and unfortunately, I wouldn't have an answer to the theoretical question either. --Polytech1 (talk) 03:23, 22 January 2015 (UTC)
