Term start
[edit]Let's not mix the start of the term, which is immediately because a vacancy is filled, with the ceremony of holding up the hand. Please check the Congressional biographies of other U.S. House special election winners. The Twentieth Amendment has terms start regardless of oath, so this has good precedent. Hekerui (talk) 21:36, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- So when does it start? When polls close? When the media calls a winner? The Constitution says the state handles the election, but the state board of elections won't certify the results for weeks. —Designate (talk) 01:03, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Election day, at least that's been the rule, probably because that day the person who finishes the term is determined through voting. The media mention the swearing-in dates, always, but to the Congressional Biographical Directory that does not seem to matter - which is understandable, because it may be easier to get to the U.S. House for some people than others. Kelly will certainly vote before state certification. Hekerui (talk) 10:20, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
