Insignia

[edit]

Academy officers normally wear the officer rank insignia which existed in the Canadian Army prior to 1968 ("pips" and crowns). Shouldn't this be changed in light of the Canadian Army returning to pips and crowns? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:647:4800:54:8DD8:7508:4AC2:D2E (talk) 03:13, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

this article needs to be updated:
1 There is still a reference to pre-1968 insignia.
2 The comparisons with US Army insignia are inappropriate. Pips could be defined once and thereafter shouldn’t be in quotation marks every time as if there were something abnormal about them.
3 The academy webpage shows smiling senior students in tan berets. The hat colour needs checking Humphrey Tribble (talk) 03:10, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism Of The Academy

[edit]

I know there has been a lot of abuse by ex-students trashing the Academy, but there has been some public criticism of the Academy. Even though this goes back 15 years, it is still relevant and should be presented in unbiased form as part of the article. The follow are some of the areas that should be reviewed for content.

  • two runaway students killed by an oncoming train
  • claims of headmaster and founder Scott Bowman exaggerated his military career
  • instructor charged in student assault (dismissed)
  • freedom of speech issue
  • CSM Vickers (??? - 2008) assaulting other staff/students with stun grenade

I know some of these issues can be blown out of proportion (or not). Airtap, I know you object to these at all, but they are part of the history of the academy. Could you help present this in a way that is accurate and unbiased?

Also remember that a boy jumped into ongoing traffic to die in 2010 just to avoid being brought back to the academy. It happened November 29, 2010
