Several sources have it that he never actually got the chance to do the job as Pres, but that he died of illness before he actually got the chance to serve. I can't remember whether this was yellow fever or malaria, however being from the North he may just not have been aware of the right precautions ? or maybe somebody should have taken better care of him, unless he was specifically given this job so that they could rid themselves of the founder of the American Colonization Soc ? I have wondered for sometime if maybe there might be some truth to that ideaJohn5Russell3Finley 23:21, 30 July 2006 (UTC) I guess that is a bit silly though, since one of his cousins also named Robert Finley was amoung the founders of Georgia, and maybe the famous Georgia hostility to Northerners might not even have existed until after the civil war John5Russell3Finley23:27, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
