Chemist bio
[edit]Someone should clarify how Chesebrough began his career as a chemist... since, from my reading, kerosene is not clarified from whale oil... rather, kerosene is clarified from petroleum, and was a cheaper competitor to whale oil.You might clarify lamp oil from whale oil, perhaps. No?
Yeah, someone with a severe misunderstanding of the physical world wrote that sentence — kerosene can absolutely NOT be refined from whale oil — it is strictly petroleum-based. *facepalm* And yes, whale oil was widely used for lamp oil until the raw ingredients and better refining processes for kerosene became readily available, especially with the advent of oil drilling. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.158.138.182 (talk) 08:57, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
