Meaning of Black Circle in Orange Rectangle

[edit]

While watching Police Interceptors season 7 episode 1, I noticed a roadway sign for "Stamford" on the first line, and "A1" on the next line. To the right of the "A1" was an orange square, about the same height as the "A1", with a black circle in the square; it almost looked like an afterthought (couldn't tell whether it was painted or embossed. I could not find a meaning for it on the web. I presume it meant there's a roundabout, but, don't most such intersections have one? So, what does it mean?
