Victoria Bridge a dealbreaker?
[edit]My parents, who live in Saskatoon, tell me that the closure of the Traffic Bridge and the subsequent talk of replacing it was actually considered a dealbreaker for River Landing, and this might have been a reason why the city chose to simply repair it (besides the cheaper price tag). Can anyone confirm that development of River Landing hinges at all on the bridge? 23skidoo 14:25, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
The city owns most of River Landing. It sold one lot to a developer who is putting in a hotel/spa. The arts centre is an existing group in town this is building it's part of the complex. The rest of the development is in the hands of the city. --M@sk 00:02, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
- I think my parents were talking about the hotel/spa developer. Basically as they heard the story, he was going to pull out of the project because the bridge was considered a selling feature. He may or may not have had something to do with the roundabout that was built at Spadina Cres. If my parents heard about it, it must have been something that was reported in the local media, but something like that needs to be cited before it's added to the article proper. 23skidoo 03:15, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
The developer (who is actually a SHE) pulled out because of a lack of tax incentives expected to be offered by he city, and some pretty nasty objections to people who didn't want the project to go through. Rising costs and lack of skilled laour contributed. (DAG)
