As part of a major overhault of the M. guatemalae superspecies, I have redirected this page to Foothill Screech-owl. For various reasons most of what appeared on the Rio Napo Screech-owl page was not forwarded to Foothill Screech-owl:

  • 1) A large part was essentially about the changes in genera, i.e. not specific to this species. A long discussion on this can already be found in the genus articles (→Screech-owl and Scops-owl).
  • 2) For a large part, this taxon was unaffected by the changes, as it only was described in 1928. In other words, contrary to what this article stated, it was not resorted back to Otus in 1910 (~18 years before it was ever described). The only that directly affected it was the fairly recent change from Otus to Megascops.
  • 3) When the Napo Screech-owl is recognized as a species, it is commonly considered monotypic (instead of three subspecies).
