Recursive definition

This is clever, but I feel it's distracting from the actual topic. I'm moving it here to consider, and in case anyone else feels strongly that it should be moved back.

"A recursive definition of a ring system is that it is either a simple ring, or the union of two ring systems that share one or more atoms in common."
