Edited Written Percy Jackson Series

[edit]

Rick Riordan did not write the ultimate guide. It was written by Mary-Jane Knight. If you don't believe me, look at the copyright page of The Ultimate Guide. They probably didn't put her name on the front so buyers could be tricked into thinking it was written by Rick Riordan.KF5LLG (talk) 23:15, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Took care of it; thanks for pointing it out. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 05:31, 8 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation of Riordan's name

[edit]

It's "RYE-er-dun." See a Library of Congress video-- "Rick Riordan - 2009 National Book Festival"-- at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPz5SQ5gkck. Cullinane (talk) 17:39, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, and you can also confirm the author's own pronunciation at http://www.adlit.org/articles/authors/riordan/. The pronunciation RYE-er-dun written in IPA is /ˈraɪərdən/. It was previously written incorrectly in the article as /ˈraɪərˌdɛn/, which would imply that the final syllable gets a secondary stress and rhymes with 'men', which is not the case. So I corrected it. Iceager (talk) 21:11, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Book 5's title is not officially revealed.

[edit]

How are people here and on the Heroes of Olympus page (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/The_Heroes_of_Olympus) saying that Book 5 is "The Doors of Death"? Rick Riordan's official site - http://www.rickriordan.com/my-books/percy-jackson/heroes-of-olympus.aspx does not say anything about the title, only that it will be released in Fall 2014. Please reply if you know otherwise and give a citation. Or I will replace the title with simply "Book 5", since there is not even a working title divulged by the author. Adityarajbhatt (talk) 14:11, 24 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably similar to the situation in the thread above, in which the fourth novel revealed the fifth's title before any other source. Nevertheless, I agree with Adityarajbhatt's course of action; we should wait for official announcements from Riordan's site or publishers, per WP:CRYSTAL. Rotideypoc41352 (talk) 09:48, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by your first sentence? The fourth novel has not been released yet. Assuming you meant the third novel, I would be fine with taking that as a source if it reavealed the fourth's name before it was updated on Rick's site. However, "The House of Hades" has not been released yet so we still do not know the fifth's name (widely rumored to be "The Doors of Death"). Adityarajbhatt (talk) 11:09, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, my mistake. In that case, Doors of Death should not be on the page at all. Rotideypoc41352 (talk) 01:37, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure the fifth book is called the blood of olympus.-LEM1227— Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.28.14.119 (talk) 18:50, 21 February 2014‎

Prose Form: Please Correct It!

[edit]

"The Son of Sobek" and "The Staff of Serapis" are not a mini novel and not a novel. The literary form is called short story which is one of the major literary forms besides novels.
For those who don't know: Short Stories are still called short stories even if they have more than 100 pages. It's not really about how long such a story is, it's about what literary techniques are used. Literature 101, probably every university teaches it in the first term.

Percy Jackson and the Singer of Apollo

[edit]

I'm unable to edit the page, so can an admin please add Percy Jackson and the Singer of Apollo to the list of works by Mr Riordan. This is a short story, published in the Guys Read: Other Worlds anthology. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.216.247.156 (talk) 12:45, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Full name

[edit]

Is there a source for "Richard Russell Riordan, Jr."?

We give one source for the lead sentence, whose superscript "[1]" follows the parenthetical birthdate. The link to so-called "ID Card" at Puffin Books is dead, but here is a copy of the entire target page archived 2014-10-11 [1].

Life and career (and lead)

[edit]

There is very little biography here in section 1, Life and career. Meanwhile there is too much in the lead section. Some reorganization is appropriate.

I added some to the very little biography using source [ref name=athena] that is new here (June 2013 move to Boston and 28th wedding anniversary). And consolidated that material at section 1, new paragraph two. And moved details of the three section 1 biographical refs down to References, which reduces clutter. I did not touch the long lead that includes move biography.

These changes are much easier to see at once, diff spanning 5 midnight versions. --P64 (talk) 00:59, 15 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is not really the right place to ask for help; this page is for discussing improvements to Rick Riordan. However, anything you find on this article is fact-checked. The best thing you can do for a project is to follow the links in the "References" section. Please keep this in mind for the future, and consider a more appropriate place to pose questions. Life in Boston

[edit]

Rick and his family moved to Boston because Haley, not Patrick, was starting college there. Haley was born on September 10, 1994 and would have been 18 when they moved, while Patrick is 4 years younger and was just starting high school. LoganDowlen96 (talk) 01:40, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Redirecting templates

[edit]

Is there any reason for using the redirecting templates "Percy Jackson", "Kane Chronicles" and "Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard" insted of the general "Template:Rick Riordan" at the bottom of the page? The way it currently is, shows three equal collapsed templates. It seems they were once separated, but have since been merged. I've changed it, if there was a reason, I'll revert it.

Since the series is a trilogy, it doesn't appear that there will be a 4th book. (See this article on it.) Also, this is an encyclopedia article, so Riordan himself will never see your comment. From his website, there really isn't a way to contact him directly or to get a response. You might look around the web for fan communities of Riordan's books to find others interested in discussing the series. Happy reading! Schazjmd (talk) 18:12, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for the Lead

[edit]

The article could be improved by making the second paragraph in the lead its own section that goes a little more in depth on Riordan's most popular works. Ljw61 (talk) 15:34, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The lead should summarize the key points of the body of the article. That paragraph is a high-level summary of his works. I don't think it would be helpful to readers to take it out of the lead. Schazjmd (talk) 15:40, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion for the Article

[edit]

Given that this is a biographical article, more time should be spent on Riordan's early life and personal life. In this case, the Life and career section should be broken into smaller sections (i.e. Early Life, Career with potential Teaching and Writing subsections, Personal Life, etc.) as opposed to one large section. The article is currently underdeveloped, tending to focus to heavily on his works and not enough on Riordan himself. Riordan is a prominent writer that has done several interviews and has had articles written about his journey to becoming an author. A lot of that information would be beneficial in creating a deeper understanding of Riordan both as a person and an author. MEvers15 (talk) 18:31, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is a section on the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" page under "other media" for the new Disney+ television series but I am wondering if there should be a mention of it here since it is a project that Rick Riordan is working on? Maybe under other have the word's "Disney+ TV adoption" that link to that section of the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" page.Loki friggason (talk) 20:31, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested section to add on the Nico and Will book being co-authored by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro

[edit]

Untitled Nico and Will book

On October 7, 2021 Rick Riordan announced on his official website that one of the new projects he is working on is an as of yet, untitled book focusing on Nico Di Angelo and Will Solace, characters from his popular Percy Jackson series.[1] (https://rickriordan.com/2021/10/happy-news-for-october/)  The story will have Nico and Will travel to Tartarus to save Bob the Titan, as was hinted at toward the end of The Tower of Nero, the last book in the The Trials of Apollo series. This story, as with previous entries in the Percy Jackson universe, will be told from the point of view of various different characters. To ensure an authentic presentation of Nico’s voice, Rick Riordan will co-write the book with author Mark Oshiro.[2] (https://ew.com/books/rick-riordan-mark-oshiro-book-nico-di-angelo-will-solace/) Mark Oshiro is a queer author and fan of the Percy Jackson universe.[3](https://dailynorthwestern.com/2022/02/20/opinion/cabral-missing-queer-authors/) This will not be Oshiro’s first work, he has written other books including YA novels with queer characters such as Anger Is A Gift.[4](https://www.markoshiro.com/about) This untitled new entry into the Percy Jackson world is tentatively scheduled to be released some time in 2023.[5] [6] (https://rickriordan.com/2021/10/happy-news-for-october/) (https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/59241920-untitled-nico-book)

Comma splice in last sentence of second paragraph

[edit]

Pretty much what it says in the title - the last sentence of that paragraph, "He is currently co-writing The Sun and the Star with author Mark Oshiro, it is set to release on May 2, 2023", has a comma splice between "Oshiro" and "it". This should probably be a semicolon, but I can't edit because it's semiprotected. 108.16.35.208 (talk) 21:03, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Proposal

[edit]

I propose merging Mythology in Rick Riordan's works into Rick Riordan. I believe the content in "Mythology in Rick Riordan's works" is currently not notable enough to warrant its own article, and that a merge would not cause any article-size issues.
