First Draft of the Rick Benjamin article

[edit]

I went to see my first performance by Rick Benjamin and the Paragon Ragtime Band last night and really enjoyed it. I met Mr. Benjamin and told him I would be taking photos of the performance during and after the show and that I would expand the article in Wikipedia.

This is my first draft. Every statement that I put into the article has a citation and I have eleven different sources for the article. There were three or four sentences in the original article concerning Mr. Benjamin's relationship with his grandfather that did not have citations and I have tagged them and left them in for the time being. I expect that as I do additional research I will be able to verify them.

The only problem that I ran into during the research is that there have been a lot of newspaper articles written about Benjamin and the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra over the past 15 years however most of them require payment to get access to them and I am not ready to spend thirty or forty dollars to read them.

I think this is a pretty good first draft of the article especially considering what the article looked like before I started so I will let this stand for now and will add additional material as I find it over the next few weeks or months.

Changed Title of Article from Rick Benjamin (band leader) to Rick Benjamin (conductor)

[edit]

Rick Benjamin has contacted me and said that he thinks the title "Rick Benjamin (band leader)" misrepresents his function with the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra. In the first place, by definition, the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra is an orchestra not a band. A band has a "band leader," an orchestra has a "conductor." I think Mr. Benjamin's arguments have merit, so I have gone ahead and changed the title of the article to "Rick Benjamin (conductor)."

Otherwise Mr. Benjamin thinks the article is very good, correctly represents him, and contained no major factual errors. He was quite pleased to see the original article expanded.

I have addressed these concerns. In addition to an overextensive quotation, this article did duplicate text from external sources without indicating that text was duplicated, which does constitute clear copyright infringement. on avery island/perry weissman 3

[edit]

The articles on Neutral Milk Hotel and On Avery Island indicate performances by Rick Benjamin, this is confirmed in Kim Cooper's book about In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. This should be added to the article. Also, does anyone have any information about the Perry Weissman 3? riffic (talk) 09:31, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
