Note to IPSWICH readers: I lived there from about 1950-1970. I think Stokes was a popular M.P. and his death much lamented. His brother lived at Hintlesham Hall nearby. Perhaps they both grew up there? The Evening Star published an obituary. Why not pop down to Ipswch Library, look up this obituary and add more information to this article (with inline references)?

After Richard's brother died, Hintlesham Hall was sold to the well known cookery writer Robert Carrier, who opened it as a restaurant. It is now a hotel. Budhen (talk) 19:33, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
