The article says "Summoned to parliament, as Baron Stafford of Clifton, on 8 January 1371, and regularly summoned until 1379". I can't really find confirmation of this. This is a rather important detail, because historical records say the "banneret Sir Richard Stafford, uncle of the earl" was appointed to the first continual council of Richard II in July 1377, to counterbalance another banneret (Roger Beauchamp de Bletso). There were only two barons on the council, and they are already accounted for (William Latimer and John Cobham). This Richard Stafford fits the bill of descriptions by age (an old companion of Edward the Black Prince) and genealogically (uncle of the earl, etc.), but his title as "Baron Stafford of Clifton" seems at odds with being a mere banneret in 1377. Or am I missing something? When was he elevated to baron? Or are they confusing father Richard & son Richard? Walrasiad (talk) 04:04, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT: I notice that on the Edmund Stafford page, it states: "His father [Sir Richard Stafford] is stated in some sources to have been "Baron Stafford of Clifton", but no such title is listed in the authoritative The Complete Peerage".
