Richard Kelly deserves a chance
[edit]As an ardent fan of cricket, i believe i have a right to say this, and im sure many will agree that richard kelly deserves a chance to play for the West Indies senior team - it is only fair!
from the very first time r. kelly came on to "d scene", when he played national senior cricket in 2004, he made a great positive impact! he was winning games for us with his allround ability - if he wasn't bringing back the game to the favour of trinidad and tobago with the bat, he was doing it with the ball, and i must mention he is a very gud fielder as well! i remember being there at the one day final in barbados when all there was all kind of talk, from even before the competition had started, that those guys were too young and too inexperienced to reach anywhere far - well the people who were saying that had to shut there mouths dat day - we won!!!! the guyanese fans, in their numbers, couldn't handle it!!! furthermore, not to be biased, cuz i love all those guys, but we owe that title to the hard work, dedication and perseverance to richard kelly - he bowled tremendously, along with his buddy rayad emrit, and when ws time to take up the bat, when we had lost so many wickets in such little time, richard kelly made sure he stayed at that crease and brought that game home for us which earned him the "Man of the Match" title!!! what a wonderful experience to be there, especially with all the talk had been getting and the fact that T&T hadn't won that title in 8 years - it was one of the best moments in cricket and it was also when the guys earned the title "Cinderella Kids"
Anyway, back to kelly, he went on to give us some tremendous performances and within no time had won the hearts of many - i remember going to games and wen it was time for him to bowl or bat the crowd would really be cheering for him - why? because they recognise the kind of talent he has and the great things he is capable of accomplishing!
then recently in 2006 at the end of the carib beer cup he was recognised for his outstanding performances wen he earned the award for Best Allrounder of the series! i remeber that knock of 93 in that final - the boy batted like a pro! his cricket has developed so much in a couple of years - i remember wen ppl used to say that he was too aggressive and could probably only be gud for one day cricket, well they are so wrong now - he can bat!, really bat in whatever style the game and the specific situation calls for!
Now, you want to tell me how in the world, can a person get a best allrouder award in a competition that is specifically set up for the west indies board selection committee to choose players from and then that person doesn't get picked! it really really upsets me and im sure the whole criket community that richard kelly did not get selected for a chance at the west indies senior level. what is the point of the guys playing all that criket and hoping for a chance to be selected at that level if they perform well enough and then wen they do perform their hearts out they are neglected? Imagine tino best, who couldnt even make his national squad was selected to play against zimbabwe and darren ganga, our great great skipper, after his outstanding performance in the previous test series against new zealand and also at the national level didnt even get picked for the one day squad! it disgusts me that the west indie scricket board could be so blatant about the political oicks that they make and especially at a time wen west indies cricket is in dire need of life and revamping!!!!!!!!!
i also need to mention that ive heard ppl talk about kelly's weight and to people who question his size i have to comments to make 1) he is naturally broad-built, if u look at hsi family they are all the same way so he does not have a weight problem and
2) if he indeed had a weight problem, then it's not keeping him back form earning "best allrounder" awards and always performing at a higlhy approving level!
Please give richard kelly a fair chance - he deserves it, west indies can do with sumone with the right attitude, intelligence and outstanding all-round ability (a combination that doesnt come along all the time, so wen it does one should take advantage of it).
Regards and best wishes to richard kelly and all the striving cricketers, continue to do ur best, ardent fan
