Removed/added pov
[edit]<this is highly embellishing if not outright sycophantic. "Sin", for example child prostitution, continues to be rampant in Olongapo City>.
I have no idea if that is true, but it is certainly a POV dispute. Cheers V. Joe (talk) 22:49, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Unclear number - ask for help
[edit]"In 2009, Gordon was named as one of the people behind the bribery and protectionism in the construction of a 120 USD Casino and Hotel in Subic. Gordon was a director of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) who oversaw the project at the time."
I feel that 120 USD is the wrong number --Axatem (talk) 13:43, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
Criticisms and controversies section neutrality
[edit]This section of this WP:BLP is supplied with intricate details, giving undue weight on alleged actions.
Additionally, the sub-section title "Deadly Senator" violates WP:POVNAMING because it is not a widely used name, it can even be considered defamatory. JETH888 (message) 12:58, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
- Update: The Criticisms and controversies section was removed by Leachbalms on 8 September 2021. Might want to check it. Jollibinay (talk) 10:16, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
Requested move 24 September 2021
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: (non-admin closure) MOVED to Dick Gordon (politician). Clear consensus not to use the middle initial for disambiguation. The vote tally prefers "Dick Gordon" to "Richard Gordon". User:力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 01:49, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
Richard J. Gordon → Richard Gordon (politician) – This man is never referred to as "Richard J. Gordon", with the middle initial. Either it's "Richard Gordon", "Richard 'Dick' Gordon" or "Dick Gordon", with preference to the first option. Now, checking Richard Gordon, there are at least a couple other politicians named "Richard Gordon", but neither are referred to as such, one is called "R.H. Gordon", while the other is "Rich Gordon", the Richard Gordon of this RM is never referred to by these names. Most of the references in this article refer to him in any of the three names I shared. This guy can claim WP:PRIMARYTOPIC over "Richard Gordon (politician)"; in case that's disputed, we can use "Richard Gordon (Filipino politician)" or "Richard Gordon (politician, born 1945)". Compare Richard J. Gordon vs. Rich Gordon. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:59, 24 September 2021 (UTC)— Relisting. Havelock Jones (talk) 13:58, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Jollibinay (talk) 18:45, 25 September 2021 (UTC)
- Move to Dick Gordon (politician), which seems to me to be his common name, used on his own website. But as a second choice Richard Gordon (Filipino politician), as R. H. Gordon and Rich Gordon are/were also Richard Gordon and also politicians. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:29, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- No opposition from me on moving to Dick Gordon (politician), as this person was, and is still is referred to as "Dick Gordon", just not as frequently as "Richard Gordon". This person does own WP:PRIMARYTOPIC over Richard Gordon (politician), though. Howard the Duck (talk) 20:17, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- He can't have primary topic claim over a disambiguated title. See WP:INCDAB. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:06, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Necrothesp: Interesting! What's the best solution then? Move to Richard Gordon (Filipino politician)? Howard the Duck (talk) 15:48, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- Either that or Dick Gordon (politician), as there are no other Dick Gordons who are politicians and have articles here. -- Necrothesp (talk) 23:13, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

- Support per nom. Would prefer the change to Dick Gordon (politician) as he is commonly known per WP:NAME.--ERAMnc 22:43, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose I personally am not a fan of the parenthesis convention, and would much rather avoid it if and when it's possible to do so, which is why I'm opposing this request. Also, in the Philippines, politicians are also often referred to by their first and nicknames together (so Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel, Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan and even Christopher "Bong" Go), so having the first name in use is not as unusual as people think. That said, while I don't mind using Dick Gordon for an article title, I want to avoid using parenthetical disambiguators as much as possible. --Sky Harbor (talk) 00:09, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose with the reason that it will not be advantageous for any future contributor. Should there come another Filipino politician bearing the name Richard Gordon, a conflict in article naming could happen and could result in article name change request again (e.g. Richard Gordon (Filipino Politician) then Richard Gordon (Filipino Politician) again?). Also, I find that the disambiguation page and short description satisfies the issue of identification of the name Richard J. Gordon to the Filipino official. But, if preferred, I support the renaming of the article to Dick Gordon instead as it is closely identified to Sen. Gordon at the time being (a la Richard "Dick" Cheney) although with the risk of a similar article name change again should there be a foreign or separate local individual referred to also as Dick Gordon. Markoolio97 (talk) 15:38, 23 October 2021 (UTC)
- I should point out here that Gordon himself uses "Richard J. Gordon", particularly in formal settings like events where he is the keynote speaker (see this). It's also on his Facebook page, and similar to the point being made here I agree that the short description is sufficient to distinguish this Dick Gordon from the other Dick Gordons and Richard Gordons without needing to move the page name. --Sky Harbor (talk) 17:01, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- In the present time, the Richard Gordon who is a Philippine senator has undisputed WP:PRIMARYTOPIC over other Richard Gordons who are politicians. You can argue the same with the same guy with "Dick Gordon" over all other politican Dick Gordons. If at any reason, another Richard Gordon or Dick Gordon can claim WP:PRIMARYTOPIC in 2031 or 2121, make an WP:RM once that happens. WP:AT is based on present usage and not on WP:CRYSTAL or who was the famous Gordon in 1821.
- Also, I've organized a seminar where Gordon is one of the speakers. As this was so long ago, I don't remember what name we used for him but it undisputed that most people haven't encountered this guy in seminars nor even realize he has an official website. Seriously, we have policies for naming let's not make up new ones. Howard the Duck (talk) 18:49, 24 October 2021 (UTC)

Ancestry?
[edit]When I view this article, the "Ancestry" section is essentially blank. However, when I go to the "Edit" page for that section, there are some names listed. There probably is some detail in the markup language (is that the right term?) that is wrong and is causing this, but I don't know what it is exactly, and therefore can't fix it.
