Ribot

[edit]

I have changed the entry for Ribot. Apart from stylistic improvements such as the unbracketed dates (what is "Tenerani 1944" supposed to mean?), I have corrected the incorrect name given for Mario Incisa della Rochetta (incorrectly quoted as "Rocchetta" from a quoted web site - he actually wrote a book, "The Tesios as I knew Them", which gives his correct name. I have included this in the references). I have also updated Ribot's stud career in part from the book, "Great Racehorses of the World", which I have included in the references.

His name really is Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, check the family's website https://www.tenutasanguido.com/en/history. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C8:2F87:CE01:9597:3372:4EC4:2ED3 (talk) 21:22, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have now added the years he was leading sire.

Country

[edit]

Why do you regard Ribot as Briton, since it was Italian during all its glorious racing career? Lele giannoni (talk) 14:33, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That highlights one of the difficulties of trying to assign "nationality" to a racehorse. Ribot was foaled at the National Stud in Newmarket, hence he is regarded as British in breeding terms - but undoubtedly he was bred by an Italian and trained by an Italian.--Bcp67 (talk) 19:30, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Tagged article with refimprove. Loads of unreferenced material. All good faith stuff, but needs evidence. For instance, NONE of the Horse of the Year awards are referenced. Note that Pedigree Query is not usually considered a reliable source.  Tigerboy1966  08:35, 3 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

replaced tag. No improvements had been made.  Tigerboy1966  20:22, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Updates

[edit]

I am trying to knock this article into shape. There's a lot of repetition/redundancy and nothing like enough refs, but I'm doing my best. The old boy deserves it.  Tigerboy1966  21:04, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Weasel Words

[edit]

Coming to this page in passing and noticing the flag "weasel words" on a comment about the horse, which is fair enough as no citation, however I will leave a quote from Breeding for Racing (1976) by John Hislop (who bred Brigadier Gerard) who lists Ribot as one of the outstanding race sires of his time, and calls him "one of the greatest racehorses of the century". While being only one citation, is does show that Ribot was held in esteem by people in the trade. (This is also backed up by information about his career.) (The horse, not Mr Hislop.) I also edited "greatest horses" to "greatest racehorses", since Ribot is not famous for any other purpose than racing. 212.159.59.41 (talk) 09:54, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
