Black Stream/Black Creek
[edit]Calling the translation of the name "Ribeirão Preto" into English as Black Stream isn't really that bad of a translation, and to characterize this as a mis-translation sort of misses the point that often there isn't an exact translation of a word from one language into another. Having both lived in Ribeirão Preto, knowing a little bit of the history there and also being a native English speaker, I'd have to say that both terms (creek and stream) are valid translations for the word "ribeirão", meaning something a bit smaller than a river (rio) but rather substantial in terms of a natural waterway. Often even in English such terms are rather subjective as well.
My point here... this is merely an alternative translation rather than a mis-translation as was characterized earlier. --Robert Horning (talk) 14:37, 21 May 2010 (UTC)
