Orphaning minor species articles

[edit]

Putting a big tag on this requesting that users link it to other articles will not wind up with useful links on en.Wikipedia. There are hundreds of thousands of minor taxa articles that do no wikilink to other articles. If the article is about a major species, a well-known species, a genus, or higher taxon, it might be appropriate to call attention to the article not being wikilinked. In the case of this article, it is linked to a list of species of Rhododendron, as are or will be another thousand species. But, the only other place to link most of these species would be by adding a 1000-species list to the genus article.

Popular cultivars and hybrids and species will be linked. But not all.

  • That has nothing to do with anything. I assume you will be taking this up at Wikipedia:WikiProject Orphanage, and when you get a consensus there, you can re-remove it. The talk page of an orphaned talk page is not the place for such a discussion. In the meantime, you'll just have to play by the rules ("consensus"), like the rest of us, and for the sake of redundancy I'll point you to Wikipedia:Orphan. • Owie, got a little riled up lately? I edit species articles, you're just here to harass me, so I suggest you take your harassment to another venue and let me edit articles. If you "order" an editor off of your talk page, and then go through their edits to start a battle with them in article space, you are acting in bad faith and not here to edit the encyclopedia. Stop it. -Fjozk (talk) 03:54, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles that may be difficult to de-orphan

[edit]
  • Organisms/Taxonomic/Species articles: Unless they're part of a navbox, it's highly unlikely that these specialized subjects will be linked to from more than 1 other article (although note that this has no bearing on their notability). Given that there's such a huge number of these and that many of them are 1 or 2 line stubs, it does not help to improve Wikipedia by tagging every single one with an orphan tag, and in fact may be seen as disruptive by other users. Please focus on the ones where there's at least a chance of inter-wikilinking.

Now, go away and find something constructive to do besides carrying on a vendetta in article space. -Fjozk (talk) 03:57, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
