[edit]Should Rex Applegate be put in the "Knife makers" category?Isaac Crumm 03:48, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure Applegate ever made any knives; I think, as a combat export, his role was primarily in the general design, with a bladesmith finalizing the design and building it. scot 17:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Applegate was in the OSS and then in Mexico working as an "advisor"? Was Applegate in Mexico City when Oswald was there in 1963?
Applegate was on the Board of Directors of the NRA in the 1990's. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.34.74.224 (talk) 03:03, 5 July 2015 (UTC)
Sailors are not "Shanghai"-ed from Shanghai. They are Shanghai-ed onto merchant vessels for the long trip to shanghai from ports on the US Pacific Coast. It is an American term not a Chinese one.
- OK, I looked up the etymology and you are correct, it did come from the practice of kidnapping sailors to go to Shanghai. I always figured that the stereotypical sailor's desire for booze, bucks, and babes would have them flocking to Shanghai... I'll put in a few notes from Shanghai's history (opium trade, rebellion, and gansters) to justify that it was a nasty place to be a cop. scot 14:32, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
I have been looking up many things related to fmfrp 12-80. I remember seeing it many times in different wikipedia articles, such as this one, point shooting and fairbairn sykes knife. Maybe it should have it's own article? I, as a user of wikipedia thinks so, but I'm not sure how to implement it.... Very New. Nic007. Nic007 10:32, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
needs expansion
[edit]Applegate is well-known for his books (I recall our public library had Crowd & Riot Control and Kill or Get Killed bound in one volume) and the entry needs a bibiography.
- Rex Applegate, KILL OR GET KILLED - A Manual of Hand to Hand Fighting, 1943.
- Rex Applegate, Crowd & Riot Control, Stackpole; 6th Edition, 1964.
Also, wasn't Applegate instrumental in development of the Ferret 40mm tear gas round? 67.232.92.77 (talk) 22:53, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- This article was posted on DVIDS in July. It mentions his cause of death. Is that something worth including? Is DVIDS a reasonable source for info (not just images)? https://www.dvidshub.net/news/476096/roll-call-lieutenant-colonel-rex-applegate-1914-1998 Bill Beers (talk) 02:23, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
