Richard von Mises

[edit]

"Richard von Mises was the first to conceive and apply the jackknife" I thought it was Quenouille. Googling quenouille jackknife and then "von mises" jackknife suggests I might be correct. Is there a source for the statement? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tolstoy the Little Black Cat (talkcontribs)

Jackknife == Subsampling?

[edit]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Jackknife method identical to the subsampling method? If so, then shouldn't the two sections be merged in the article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.102.153.2 (talk) 20:24, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

See also https://stats.stackexchange.com/questions/144064/jackknife-vs-loocv Seems to need more research: This book suggests that only the goal of Jackknife and Random Leave-one-out Crossvalidation (a form of Subsampling) differ: https://www.google.de/books/edition/Encyclopedia_of_Bioinformatics_and_Compu/rs51DwAAQBAJ?hl=de&gbpv=1&dq=jackknife%20is%20leave%20one%20out%20cross%20validation&pg=PA544&printsec=frontcover&bsq=jackknife%20is%20leave%20one%20out%20cross%20validation confirming stackexchange Biggerj1 (talk) 20:31, 15 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
