Politics and ideology stand very close to each other. I would rather add a "ethnic" repression and "religious" repression, but cut "ideological" section, which would basically repeat the "political" one. P.S. Good luck to us all on this articles, as we are starting a very extencive and important article.FeelSunny (talk) 17:17, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Importance

[edit]

I don't know why some of the articles in the series are "low importance" on the Importance Scale of Wikiproject USSR. In most of the world, especially the English-speaking world, the USSR is synonymous with repression. Solzhenitsyn is considered a cultural icon of the Soviet Union because he documented this sort of thing firsthand. Stalin, who has also become synonymous with the USSR, is considered one of the most repressive leaders in history. Commissarusa (talk) 20:06, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Really not a disambiguation page

[edit]

I don't want to get into an edit war, but I strongly disagree with the designation of this article as a "disambiguation page". Per WP:DABCONCEPT, a disambiguation page is not supposed to be an index of articles on subdivisions of a single broad topic; rather, it is supposed to be used when different topics may be referred to by the same name. Here, we have a single encompassing (albeit very broad) topic that is divided into three subtopics. The subtopics are clearly related to each other in various ways. This is not a disambiguation situation. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:34, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. The article needs an intro and really general summaries of Soviet repressions, without going into individual events. -M.Altenmann >t 16:37, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Content addition

[edit]

I've put together a lead and a short description of some of the repression types, and added additional types to the list and put it under the "types" section. I'd like to see this article become more than just a disambig page and what I just wrote, but, like the post above, I also don't want to get into an edit war over what should and shouldn't be under the generalized term of Soviet repression. Should this page stay as a de facto disambig page or be a functioning article? Flemmish Nietzsche (talk) 03:22, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
