I'll take a look at this soon. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 21:03, 6 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Prelim

[edit]
  • No duplicated links
  • No edit wars
  • Images correctly licensed. Nice group of them, too.
  • Earwig reports copyvio unlikely

Lede and infobox

[edit]
  • Suggest expanding out the Islington link to include "New Zealand" because I automatically assumed this meant Islington
  • My thinking here was that because the previous sentence established that he was a New Zealander, the clarification isn't necessary. Happy to change if you insist though. Zawed (talk) 06:45, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • "land aircraft on" while technically correct it's a little janky; would "operate on aircraft carriers" work with the source?
  • Possible to say what he was instructing in?
  • I think linking the film in the lede would be worthwhile
  • Link No. 3 TEU as done in infobox
  • Done.
  • "In September 1945" repeated year
  • You list No. 3 TEU as a command in the infobox but main text doesn't stipulate he was in command
  • Why not directly link to Operation Circus? Considering the Channel itself isn't mentioned anywhere in text it makes the link slightly more confusing

Early life

[edit]
  • "the Cambridge Aero Club" I think removing "the" would be more accurate to the name
  • "at the weekends"
  • Final sentence isn't too clear on whether Hyde is with the RAF or RAFVR at this point; perhaps a few words clarifying he's still RAFVR?

Second World War

[edit]
  • Deliberately failed training! Do we know why Hyde decided to do this?
  • The source doesn't say but I suspect it was because he saw greater prospect of action flying with the RAF than with the FAA. The type of aircraft could have been a factor too, as Gladiators and Swordfish were both biplanes, a long way from Hurricanes/Spitfires. Zawed (talk) 09:15, 8 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • "were posted to No. 66 Squadron...back with the RAF"?
  • Chance No. 418 Flight could be red linked?
  • "the HMS Argus"
  • "strip" suggest fuller airstrip
  • Luftwaffe should be italicised if Regia Aeronautica is
  • My understanding from other reviews is that Luftwaffe is considered a common enough term in English that italics shouldn't to be used. However, Regia Aeronautica probably isn't. I stress that the latter point is my personal view, this issue hasn't come up in a review before.
  • "Hyde, now a flight sergeant" surely Hyde would have become a flight sergeant well before this? I was under the impression that any sergeant pilot would be a flight sergeant. Am I wrong?
  • "Hyde was appointed as an instructor" As queried in lede, do we know what he was instructing on?
  • "In December 1942" repeated year
  • "in February 1942" repeated year, and also the wrong year?
  • "offensive operations" link is a little bit of an easter egg imo
  • "At this time, he was promoted to acting wing commander" what happened to squadron leader?!
