Centralized discussion about the use of the writings by Reender Kranenborg as a source in Wikipedia articles

This religious scholar is cited in a dozen articles in WP. If he is not notable enough for its own article, we will need to submit it to an AfD. ≈ jossi fresco ≈ t@ 04:29, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article is almost completely wrong, I believe, e.g. Kranenborg was not a sociologist. Please provide references for this. I do not blame Jossi for these mistakes because it is difficult to write a good article when most sources are in Dutch language. I will later try to correct it. Andries 12:08, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe not a sociologist per se, but he specialized in sociology of religion and Hinduism. He has not been translated at all, besides a few articles or presentations made at the CESNUR. ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 22:06, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Some of his English language publications were listed on his homepage at the Free university of Amsterdam, but his homepage was deleted upon his retirement last year. Andries 11:41, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Should we AfD this article, then? Jossi 16:04, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The University of Groningen is in Groningen, not in Utrecht (or I would be *very* surprised). anonymous July 2006

What does this do in the article? " The Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy[1] praised the magazine as meeting international quality standards." That is irrelevant to this. He was an editor, and that is all what needs to be said. Please do not advocate. ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 17:19, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, we do not know if that praise was given when he was an editor. ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 17:20, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, praise of somebody's main work is very relevant I think. Andries 17:22, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Are you certain that the praise was given during his tenure as an editor? Can you provide such a reference? Was he the main editor of that magazine? or just an occasional contributor? ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 17:29, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Kranenborg was one of the main editors for a long time and also a contributor. It may take a while before I have found the reference. Andries 17:31, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Please delete until then. ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 17:33, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Found the reference though I slightly misremembered it. Kranenborg was heavily involved from the start in 1980 and still involved when received the the letter of praise from the Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO) in 1992. Andries 16:36, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I still have the impression that this article contains mistakes. So will request citations. Andries 17:24, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Religious scholar

[edit]

He was editor in chief for a magazine published by the institute for religious studies of the Free University. This is sourced. I think that this is enough to label him as a religious scholar. Andries 19:36, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We have zero references about his scholarship. I am sure that if he is a scholar (which I do not doubt), sources can be found. If there are no sources, we should avoid mentioning that as a fact as per WP:V. We just don't know for certain. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 19:45, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
