Intro
[edit]This article relates to ROI only and not Ireland as a whole. I tried to retitle it, but was reverted. At the very least, however, the intro needs to make this clear. I attempted to edit so that it read "Rates of household recycling in the Republic of Ireland have increased", but OBO7 is edit-warring, without offering any rationale. - In what way it is not clear that it applies to the country called Ireland? Ireland is its name and the term country is mentioned several time. To make it even clearer incase of any confusion there's a link that people can go to see which one it is. There is no reason why people would think this article applies to the island or even why there should even be a recycling article about an island. Really your point doesn't make too much sense, the article has been like this for a very long time and not one person came to this talk page to raise the "point" your making so I'm afraid your change will probably keep on being reverted by editors as there's not really any point to it I'm afraid.Lesseclone (talk) 21:34, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- In what way it is not clear that it applies to the country called Ireland? Well, if by "country" you mean the Republic, it is not clear because it refers only to "Ireland", which is the name of the island. There is every reason why people would think this article applies to the island, as there are many such articles on WP, e.g. Sport in Ireland, Culture of Ireland, Roads in Ireland, Transport in Ireland. In the interests of clarity, it is important for readers to know that this particular article relates only to the Republic. What is your difficulty with this? - I'm not sure what your point is as you just repeated what I said.Ireland is of course a country. It's capital is Dublin. How is not a country??? Anyway it is, as I already said very clear that it applies to the "country" only. Just read the opening two lines. What is your problem with that? The burden is on you to explain any changes.Lesseclone (talk) 21:41, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- Who said Ireland wasn't a country? I'm asking whether you mean the Republic, or the whole island, when you use the term? I'm inferring that you are referring to the Republic, yet the article only mentions "Ireland", which is the name of the island, hence it is ambiguous, and hence the need for clarity. My contribution here and above explains the rationale for clarifying that the article relates only to the Republic, and not to Ireland as a whole. I ask again: what is your difficulty with this? Your attitude appears to be obstructive. Please seek consensus instead of reverting and edit-warring. Mooretwin (talk) 21:44, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- How is the island meant to be a country exactly? My problem is this: You are making it out is if there's ambiguity when there's not. Rates of household recycling in Ireland have increased dramatically since the late 1990s, but are still lagging behind the averages of other European countries. Its quite obvious what this article applies to, there's even a whole link for you to click on to find out more! Don't attack me saying I'm obstructive. You're making changes that have no consensus and are troublesome. Looking at your talk page and block log you have a history of making controversial changes. They are not welcome on this article without consensus. Until you start making structured points with refs to back them up, then there won't even be a chance to build a consensus for change.Lesseclone (talk) 21:51, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
- My goodness. Well, many people consider the whole of Ireland to be a country - I'm surprised that you are unaware of that. Anyway, that is academic. The article relates to the Republic and I note that you have failed to offer any rationale as to why that should not be made clear in the lead. Why run the risk of confusion when it can simply be rectified in the lead? This article should fall into line with others dealing only with the republic such as List of towns and villages in the Republic of Ireland, Digital terrestrial television in the Republic of Ireland, Road speed limits in the Republic of Ireland, and many more. - Within the context of the lede it is completely clear that the reference is to the state Mooretwin, and given ArbCom involvement in the name of the various articles about Ireland and their naming it might be advisable to leave this (and other articles) alone until that issue is resolved. --Snowded TALK 22:12, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
