Tunneling

[edit]

I never liked how chemists treat atoms as little specs of things with well defined positions, energies and momenta. The part where it discusses fluid movement along the bond vs the arrow formalism ignores another mechanism that happens quite often. Tunneling. Its easy with a hyrogen and in fact many of the reactios that we were taugh inolve ,for example, the exchange of a proton with the solvent in fact are much simpler. Another example of the delocalized nature that protons can easily take on can be found in carboxylates. Considering heavy metal ions have been shot at a defraction grating and produced interference patterns, its not a stretch to expect that large multi carbon groups could do it under the right curcumstances. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.180.134.66 (talk) 20:28, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
