Lede

[edit]

I'm not sure using "serial killer" here when none of the sources do fits. Regardless, its position in the lede is clunky to read. Sock-the-guy (talk) 16:59, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sock-the-guy: I agree that the term serial killer is a label that is not used in the article's sources, and was about to tag the lead section for clean-up but you beat me to it. However your edit removed additional words, too and now I think the lead section does not provide an accessible overview of the whole article. See MOS:LEAD for purpose of the lead. While information in the lead should be in the body of the article too, the lead should also provide a summary of the article, not just re-state the bald facts. I still think the lead section should mention that this person killed 3 people. Fore more on this see MOS:LEAD and WP:LEADFOLLOWSBODY. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 17:30, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm looking through, but I didn't remove any text after the "american serial killer". The lede still does mention that he killed 3 people. It could definitely be expanded though. Sock-the-guy (talk) 17:33, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He is still an American, and all three killings took place in America, in the state of Oklahoma. The lead is meant to summarize the article, so doesn't necessarily need to go into details about who he killed and could be shorter, rather than being expanded. The art of writing a lead is about getting the right balance that informs the reader without being too long to read quickly. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 18:03, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still not sure why you're telling me this. My edits were to remove an inaccurate and unsourced label. If you want to make other changes to the article go for it Sock-the-guy (talk) 18:13, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Since I am following the BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, I will be bold and amend the lead. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 18:34, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
