BC vs BCE
[edit]I reverted 67.43.20.52's replacement of all the 'BCE' entries with 'BC'. Please note that I'm not advocating either calendar date convention. However, after discussing on Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Language it was stated that WP's guidelines specifically forbid changing from one system to another (without good reason and consensus). ---Sluzzelin 06:02, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- This article has used BCE since 1 July 2004. --Wetman 06:42, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Arcturus seems to have been wrong that BC was being used prior to that, but the pedantic BCE notation wasn't discussed and is obviously unpopular with the users of a page on an Italian town famous for its cathedrals and history under the Papal States. Let's leave it BC. — LlywelynII 09:59, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
Cleaning Up this Article
[edit]Moved and shrunk down pictures in this article because the images interfered with the test and it all looked pretty messy. I removed an infobox regarding UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Ravenna, but kept the image of Theodoric's tomb. A mention in the text that this is a World Heritage site should be enough, but the info box was messing up the text/ --Ber06122 17:55, 12 February 2007 (UTC) Maybe the Early monuments of Ravenna (this is the real World Heritage) could have their own entry, pictures and infobox? What do you think? --Alberto bazzi 10:55, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Contemporary Information
[edit]This entry needs information about contemporary Ravenna. teneriff (talk) 03:42, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Port of Ravenna
[edit]The entry is relevant and IMO is not to be merged to that of Ravenna This port has now its wikipedia site like the ports of Naples, Pozzallo , Venice. What do you think?? It's in the top 20 Italian ports!! --Alberto bazzi 10:55, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Stray Text
[edit]I noticed the text "File:Ravnna-gallaplacidia.jpg" appears in the article, probably someone was trying to put a picture in the article and edited it incorrectly. Tweisbach (talk) 14:23, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
Demonym
[edit]The Italian demonym is nearly completely irrelevant for the English Wikipedia. If people are all that curious about their usage, they can follow the links to the .it article.
The unfortunate case with English, though, is that the OED is silent on the point (except to mention "Ravenna grass") and people seem to use a variety of terms (although, granted, none of them are ravennati, which should be lower case and mention the fact that it's the plural form of the term.) None of them are exactly WP:RS for the purposes of inline citation, but here are some sources on current usage: Ngram and Google Scholar 1, 2, 3. Seems like presently, it's most common to use "Ravennate" (fr. Ravennatus) as the adjective and the collective "Ravennese" (fr. Ravennatensis) for the people but that "Ravennan" (from... lousy Latin education) is increasing in popularity and might eventually replace them. Curious if any linguistic authorities have chimed in on the point, though. — LlywelynII 10:08, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
"of the fraction with 1,000 seats"
[edit]This phrase, which occurs in the "Sports" section, is completely meaningless in English. Can someone either find out what it was supposed to mean, or else delete it?213.127.210.95 (talk) 12:53, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
