Birth year

[edit]

According to this NPR article, he was born in 1897; not 1893 as the article currently states https://www.npr.org/2024/10/28/nx-s1-5157701/france-wwii-war-photos-mystery aps (talk) 00:48, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NPR is not used as a source for any content. It's further reading. At least two reliable sources antedating NPR coverage state the year 1893. See 1 and 2. If you need NPR to make another article correction, please reach out to them. Cheers. JFHJr () 01:11, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I thought NPR was a RS? Regardless, I've reached out to them for a correction as suggested. Ckoerner (talk) 20:34, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Love NPR. Generally reliable yes, but infallible no. The fact that it's not actually used as a source for any content in this article leaves the difference moot. This particular NPR article originally ran with at least one additional date error (see note at end). Let's see if NPR makes a correction. But even if they don't, the EL can stay because it's overwhelmingly germane and in English, despite the random implausible error. JFHJr () 00:34, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PS he wouldn't have been drafted in 1914 if born in 1897, a minor aged 16-17. It's objectively more plausible he was conscripted in 1914 because he was already 20-21. JFHJr () 01:17, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
