Damage to RFA Aldersdale
[edit]Aldersdale was not damaged by bombs from Junkers. My father Samuel Scorer was a Bombardier, 1st Maritime Regiment, Royal Artillery commanding the anti-aircraft gunners on the ship and directing their fire from the bridge. A Heinkel 111 launched a torpedo which passed through the hull of the ship and hit the engine, splitting the cylinder block. A rescue ship came alongside and took off crew and gunners.
