Contesting speedy deletion

[edit]

This is not a conventional bus line that fails notability (a higher standard than significance); the planning, construction, and recent opening has received substantial press coverage over a several year period. It was built as BRT-lite which is generally significant enough for a separate article rather than a section (with the sources I have available, that section would contain nearly as much prose as the existing RIPTA article). Frankly, if you are convinced you want the article gone, please do a cursory google search and take it to AfD. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 10:50, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What is the claim to notability this article makes? Maybe I'm a bit slow today, but I can't see any claim to notability. I don't take the announcement of a new type of service to be any more notable than a new dish being advertised on a menu of a restaurant. Do menus constitute claims for notability for restaurants? I'm willing to be proven wrong but I can't think of many circumstances under which a transportation routes could be notable (Examples such as Route 66 aside, where there is multiple references to them in pop culture). You have a bizarre misunderstanding of notability, as evidenced by the large number of your proposed speedy deletions which have been contested by multiple experienced editors in very short order. Notability is simply "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject" which is easy to establish via a single Google search; the R-Line has recieved substantial newspaper attention separate from RIPTA local operations. Your restaurant metaphor makes no sense; this is an entirely different realm in regards to actual importance (to say nothing of the fact that you're wrong - some menu items are considered worthy of separate articles). BRT and BRT-lite lines are, by precedent, either given separate articles or merged into an article about the specific rapid system (separate from the article about the local operator). This includes local bus routes (otherwise less significant than the R-Line) with particular notability such as longstanding streetcar history. While I would concede that all RIPTA rapid buses could be combined into one article when future routes open, that is irrelevant at the moment, and you are the only person making any claim that this should not be a separate article currently. References from reliable sources

[edit]

Could you please add references from news media or books to the article? Eastmain (talkcontribs) 12:59, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Doing my best. Books are unlikely because this is a project that has, at most, existed since about 2012, but I have some decent web sources lined up. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 22:13, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
