A source suggests that while Veranius may have ordered the building of forts for legionaires and auxilia stationed in Wales, it is unlikely that any were completed before his death.

It may be unwise to credit Quintus Veranius with any forts, since he may have died before any were built; but, following his single campaign, units of the army would have been occupying central and south Wales. As they obviously could not remain under canvas, some forts were undoubtedly under construction, either at the time of his death, or soon after, and this work of consolidation would have continued under his successor.
Webster, Graham. Rome Against Caratacus : The Roman Campaigns in Britain AD 48-58. London, UK: Routledge, 1993. p 41.

This same text indicates that Quintus Veranius is the father of Quintus Veranius Nepos:

"There is much useful information about Veranius, his father, of the same name, who was with Germanicus in Asia, became the first governor of Cappadocia (Ann. ii. 56), was after the death of Germanicus involved in the accusations against Piso (Ann. iii. 10, 13) and was afterwards rewarded by Tiberius with a priesthood (Ann. iii. 19) (though he never gained the consulship). His son would thus have had an excellent start, and on the basis of an inscription from Cyran in Lycia, 2 which gives details of his earlier career. . ." p 104.

Nepos?

[edit]

Where is the source of the name Nepos? The new PIR ² V does not list Nepos. Μίκυθος (talk) 09:39, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Query @Srnec:. Originally the article did not have that cognomen; he split up the article & added "Nepos" to this portion. -- llywrch (talk) 15:25, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The article did originally have it, not in the title but in the body. No idea where it came from. This is not my area. Srnec (talk) 23:29, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
