The History of the Surname Quinlan

[edit]

There is very little on Wikipedia about the origins and history of the surname Quinlan. All that is sated is that it is an Irish Surname and then a list of people with the Surname, and on one occasion the first name, Quinlan, are listed. It might be good to discover some early historical references to the name Quinlan, to have them referenced on this page. Imagine finding the Quinlan name outside Ireland back in the 17th or 18th century, and then trying to find out why they were where they were and what they did. My own Quinlan family are from County Waterford in the south east of Ireland. I am aware of a concentration of Quinlans in Counties Tipperary and Limerick also. There also seems to be a lot more available about the Quinns and O'Quinns. If you go back far enough, are the Quinns and the Quinlans related? What does the suffix 'lan' mean and is Quinlan just Quin with this suffix 'lan' added on? Anyway, more to follow but all contributions welcome. GavinQ (talk) 15:45, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
