[edit]- a) Is it fair to say that Khan "attended" Ar-Rahman, or was he only visiting?
- b) If he wasn't working as an engineering tech, would it be better to include something like "A graduate of Foo University's engineering program..."? I don't know where he went to school, but I often find that naming the college/university that a subject attended helps lend an air of "legitimacy" to claims. I can say "I am a doctor...", but it is better to say "I graduated in 2003 from McMaster University with a specialty in pediatrics..."
- c) If he speaks Arabic at home, or as his first language, I would throw {{Arabic}} on the talkpage - but I do not know who does or does not identify as "Arabic" among the 17. Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 17:02, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- d) There are two (common) Eids, at which Eid was Khan allegedly soliciting political support? Is there an online reference to this fact by any chance?
- e) He was practising polygyny, correct? As I understand, his first wife has since died? I don't want to include invasive or overly-personal details, but again, those reading the article would probably like to know "details" about his personal life, as it humanises him.
- f) On the same tone, this page offers some "tidbits" I think it might be nice to include, such as family trips to Canada's Wonderland and Niagara Falls, and rollerblading, cycling and swimming - it helps "reinforce" the fact he is a human being with a real family, and while some aspects of his life would be completely strange to an "average" Canadian family, he wasn't terribly different from anybody else. Any objections?

b. He WAS working as an engineering technician, actually as a Quality Assurance Supervisor in a steel products manufacturing company that had only closed 2 months prior to the arrest and was still receiving full pay (severance) for up to 11 months (or until he obtained full time employment, whichever came first). Working as a school bus driver merely provided him more income which would not disqualify him from his severance pay, while affording him business hours with which to pursue an aggressive job search in his field.
d.Khan had been using both of the Eid prayer congregations for many years to promote his political career. He was a regular speaker after said prayers, not about religious matters, but rather to ask the people to vote for him.

- Alright, leaving aside a,c,e,f for the moment...any chance you have a photograph of Jamal prior to the arrests, that we could use in the article? If you wish to talk by eMail...Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 19:14, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
He wasn't big on photos. It's a religious thing. There is a difference of scholarly opinion about photos, but he always liked to be cautious about committing a sin, so he didn't like to take photos or have photos taken of him. I don't ever remember seeing him use a camera himself, even though I have both a photo camera and a video camera. —Preceding unsigned comment added by UmmTayyab (talk • contribs) 00:30, August 28, 2007 (UTC)
a. I don't know, I don't go to the mosque.
c. I don't understand what you mean. He doesn't speak Arabic, he's Pakistani.
e. We performed the niqah (marriage contract) 3 years before his first wife died. She was not able to have children and wanted to receive a donor egg from her sister. Her sister was willing, but several religious scholars were consulted and gave fatwas that this was not permissible, as it would be considered adultery (between Abdul Qayyum and his sister in law), and that only an egg from another wife would be permissible.
After the niqah, she was diagnosed with Multiple Schlerosis and the doctor told her that her plans for having even invitro and implantation would not be possible.
She was able to contribute to the first 2 years of our first child, as we shared a home. He called me Mummy and called her Ummy (Urdu for Mummy). She was also able to see our second baby a few days after he was born, but she was suffering from acute complications of the MS and had been admitted to the hospital at the time and died a few months later.
f. I don't mind you using any reference from UmmTayyab.com
