The points in this article about the Derry/Londonderry mentions on Riverside 101, were not written by myself(Steve Marshall)However I did invent the "Broadcasting from the Capital of the Northwest" "The Business Capital Of The North West" etc notice the spelling of Capital(!)rather than Capitol which is a very old record label! This was to give the broadcasters pride in the area they were broadcasting to, and also to give the listeners to the station pride in their area. Without mentioning Derry or Londonderry, which in 2011 is still an issue... The Riverside 101 car stickers were also Red and White which have various local associations, football flags etc, and also meant anyone with whatever colour car they drove could proudly display a Riverside 101 sticker. Which were seen everywhere, Army Checkpoints, Government Offices Stores Homes etc.... It also offered a training ground for many of today's N.Ireland and European broadcasters..plus it was a whole lot of fun too...Paul Doherty who worked for Riverside 101 once told me"Riverside 101 is the first station I have worked for, where I am welcome anywhere in this city"

Radio 4U certainly might have been the first station to not say Derry or Londonderry, but Riverside 101 had a format, something most stations broadcasting from Donegal hadn't done before that, had professionally produced Voiceover jingles(featuring the late great Tony Allan and Gary Gears)..used commercial production music rather than instrumentals of current hits, and had good sound processing too...and set a standard which was respected within the industry Steve Marshall May 2011
