It's surely not that. It's in Hertfordshire, close to Luton which is in Beds.

"in 1945 the grounds of putteridge bury were used as a prisoner of war camp for Captured German soldiers. There were no guards but the men had nowhere to go and were fed and treated well so they stayed. They were taken each day to work on local farms or in the gasworks.
