English name of breed

[edit]

This article is currently called Pustertal Pied Cattle. Is there a ref for the term "pied" in the English version of the breed name? "Pied" in English generally means irregularly blotched black and white, like a Holstein/Friesian (it can be red and white, but it's then usually called "red pied"). This breed is not really pied, but colour-sided (like Longhorns, Randall cattle, Irish Moiled and several others) – the pattern is not irregular at all. What do the German names mean, literally? The only uses I can find of "pied" for these cattle are on Wikipedia-derived pages, or pages roughly translated from German, so I am doubtful if this word has any well-established usage in English. As far as I can see, most English language sources call them "Pustertaler cattle", "Pustertal cattle" or "Pustertaler Sprinzen" Why don't we use one of these names for the article title? (Incidentally, what is the difference between the two German names?) Richard New Forest (talk) 11:27, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
