History removal
[edit]@Wbm1058: I assume it was unintentional, but you appear to have removed most of the history of this page. Cavalryman (talk) 10:40, 8 April 2022 (UTC).
- No, that was intentional. The log shows:
- at 16:48, 4 April 2022 Wbm1058 merged Purebred dog into User:Atsme/sandbox (revisions up to 09:27, 7 April 2021) (by editor request)
- since nothing was merged this history isn't needed for maintaining attribution, but, it's still hanging around, just in a different place.
- Atsme has expressed a desire to rewrite that article. – wbm1058 (talk) 12:17, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Wbm1058: where was this request made? And why have you not moved the page's entire history? Cavalryman (talk) 13:05, 8 April 2022 (UTC).
- It was an off-wiki request. The remaining history is, with the exception of a reverted copy-paste, all redirects. Generally it is not good practice to move redirects (though round-robin page-movers can't help themselves). Essentially this was a case of WP:Deletion by redirection. If whatever Atsme does with this converts it into an acceptable article, it can just be moved over the top of the redirect, and the history currently there would be deleted. – wbm1058 (talk) 13:26, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Wbm1058: is it usual practice for administrators to perform administrative actions after receiving off-wiki requests? And why move an incomplete page history? Is it your desire to remove the fact that this has been a redirect? Cavalryman (talk) 13:46, 8 April 2022 (UTC).
- I can't move the entire history because that would be counter to the consensus to redirect to Dog breed. We don't redirect main-space to user pages. Although it's more usual for such requests to be made online, I don't ignore requests I get by other means. You can email me if you like. Note that I have not moved this talk page, which has the {{Old merge}} banner at the top. This has been a redirect? It (the main-space page) still is. – wbm1058 (talk) 14:16, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
- Replying here because I was pinged. FYI, it is my intention to rework that article, and while I do have mover rights, round robins are a bit complicated, and I did not want to mess things up. Why are you interrogating an admin who was kind enough to help? You're acting as if he did something inappropriate. As for the redirect, you were the OP, the closer, and the one who performed the redirect, so your actions are actually what justifies questioning, Cavalryman. You do not have an exclusive on WP articles. Atsme 💬 📧 14:28, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
