Lacks coverage
[edit]Similar to Three Men and a Baby before it, this is another film series article that lacks coverage. Everything is basically just talking about the first film. On trying to dig up information on the second or third films, I found there was a stage musical adaptation but almost nothing about the series as a whole. I feel like it will fail, WP:SIGCOV, but as requested from previous Xfd posts earlier, I'll give this some times to try and improve itself, but on my own research I haven't found really anything. - I have responded there, and have continued to add sources. Rather than nominating a page for deletion, you should allow enough time at the talk page for an ongoing discussion. DisneyMetalhead (talk) 16:02, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- I respectfully disagree. I'm not sure what a set amount of time may mean for you or another, but this article had existed in its previous state, it wouldn't have passed deletion. I do think a lot of the sources you've found are strong. Lets see what others have to say.Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:05, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Bringing up an older thread since I'm too lazy to create a new section. I've done a ton of work on this and expanded it quite a bit. What do you think? A lot of it is now going to be fine-tuning it. I don't really want to deal with the cast list section, admittedly. It was kind of tough finding sources for some of this as it was.
- I will say that I found a bit that could be used to improve the production sections for the first and second film. I hadn't really realized that some of the same people returned for the second film and that three of them (writer and two musicians) returned for the musical.
- I've also removed the crew box from what I turned into the production section. While those jobs are majorly important, they are also ones that frequently tend to fly under the radar and as such, are harder to source. Plus I'll admit that in the case of the first and second films, that level of detail should be mentioned in the main articles for those if they're mentioned anywhere outside of the infobox. I took a lot of content from the sections in the first two films and just kind of copy/pasted for the third since we're planning on redirecting that.
- I think this looks like more of a proper series page now. As far as the third film goes, should we put out a formal discussion on whether or not to redirect that or just go ahead and do it? Admittedly I'm a little worried that some may focus more heavily on the "technically passes NFILM" aspect and not really on the "very unlikely to ever get further expanded" part. Then again, I suppose that's a reason to have a discussion like that since someone could argue that it merits an article and as such, should have been discussed. - Back and forth on the idea for the reasons you stated above. I feel like we could probably keep it for its passing, even if its so totally sparse, but that way we could probably tidy up some things. I'm not sure of the value of a cast list if there are no returning characters in either film ...or seemingly even actors. I did think one of the sources went into detail on this? If we could summarize that in a sentence like "No characters or actors from Pure Country re-appeared in any of its film follow-ups" or something, it would cut to the chase, and the individual film articles could list their appropriate cast and crew. Tables are great for comparing information, but in this, if nothing matches, I don't see what we are comparing that couldn't be summarized like the above. Expansion
[edit]In doing my own research, I also discovered that there was a stage adaptation. This article can/will be expanded.--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 16:03, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- This article covers the sequels. It's not a super source, but could be used for a reception section. I don't think the third film is notable enough to pass NFILM based at first glance, so I think that the info for that and the coverage could be used to expand the reception section. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 21:31, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Huh. I stand corrected. The third film technically passes NFILM. It's not built on a ton or the best sources, but it very technically passes. To be very honest, I think that we could summarize the sourced content in a couple of paragraphs on this article. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 22:14, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've revamped the box office section and changed it so it can include a bit about the third film's home sales performance.
- I think for the next bit I'm going to either work on making a summary for the films' reception or create a section about the musical, soundtracks, and tie-in merch. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 21:29, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- I went ahead and just moved the sourced reception info to the reception section, I can expand it from there. I also went ahead and added some stuff to the lead about the soundtracks and musical. I need to build those sections. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 13:22, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Cult status on first film
[edit]In the lead, I'm not sure just saying "the film has been re-interrupted as a cult classic". Cult classic is a vague term. I wouldn't even know how to say this when the quote from Rotten Tomatoes editorial article states "Pure Country was not a hit, but today it has a distinct cult among people like my father-in-law, a South African neurologist in suburban Atlanta who loves nothing more than to pick up a guitar while howling a Bob Dylan song." The previous quote within the RT text said "Pure Country was not a hit, but today it has a distinct cult..." which is missing key information on the status of the article. Andrzejbanas (talk) 19:07, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- We definitely need sourcing on that, as well as the Rotten Tomatoes claim. I figure the reception section is going to be one of the biggest bears of the page, as finding sourcing for those will be a bit tough. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 13:23, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Found it. It's basically stating that it's a cult classic among certain people, which is I guess the definition of a cult classic. But since we only have one person stating that it's a cult classic that isn't enough. I removed that claim and instead directly quoted the editor in question. - Good work! Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:24, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

Box office and performance
[edit]I'm revamping this section. I removed the third film from the box since there wasn't a lot of point to having it there, as it never got a true theatrical release. It screened in a few places, but nowhere where the ticket costs would be tracked. The side benefit of moving this to prose is that this did allow me to record details about the third film's home video performance.
On that note, I don't know that we really need the box. I'm inclined to remove it since it's kind of redundant now, but I'll leave that up to others. I suppose it could be OK as a quick reference? ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 21:27, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- I think it could at least use pruning. We have no "overall box office" of the series, but I see that its been changed already so great work! I wonder how relevant the "all-time" section is. I do not think Box Office Mojo is a catalogue of every film ever released in America or Worldwide so I think we could scrap it for not really being that key of a detail. Redirecting PC3
[edit]I've started merging everything from the third film over and by large I think we have everything of value. If no one objects we could redirect that article here. As said here/elsewhere it very technically passes NFILM but on such scant sourcing that it's unlikely to ever improve. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 15:33, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've merged more in - my next goal is to a general production section. I'm going to go lighter on the production with PC1 since any more major info on that should be in the main article - otherwise I think the production info for the other two films are more sparse so it's less of an issue there. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 18:48, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- You've really made the article read like an article now @ReaderofthePack:. I'm wondering if we should probably re-phrase the article as a franchise as it goes beyond the medium of film into stage musicals, and even the soundtrack to the first film seems relatively relevant in general. Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:35, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- I was wondering that myself, since it's more than just the three films. I have no problem changing the verbiage from series to franchise. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 13:23, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah as we're including the stage musical, which seems comfortable here and is related to the films, I'm happy to either call it a film franchise or simply a franchise, maybe leaning towards the first per the prose in film franchise. Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:54, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Let's go for it. Do you want to do it or should I? Also, can you weigh in on redirecting the third article here? I know you're in favor of it, but it would be good to have that on record in this section. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 21:22, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'lls take a look at the third film one more time as I'm just on my way home. Maybe tag @DisneyMetalhead: as they said they wanted to work on this article and give them time to weigh on the latter. But I'd say go ahead for franchise for the reasons stated aboved. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:41, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
