The first Puerto Rican librarian in New York City

[edit]

The article states that she was "the first Puerto Rican librarian in New York City" or a "pioneer..." . This, like other passages in this bio, must be referenced. I've tagged the passage. Also, there's a passage saying she is "well known for her work in the New York Public Library". I don't think this is even referable. Sounds more like folk knowledge that encyclopedic language. Would someone volunteer to rewrite that? --damiens.rf 11:30, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

References sections

[edit]

The article use some references sometimes connected with some passage (like this[1]) but sometimes not. It should be made consistent. We need to know what the last five references are supposed to support in the article. --damiens.rf 12:02, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the references where just rotten link. I removed them. Is it ok?

Death and awards

[edit]

While I noticed that one of the sources mentioned the date of her death, we still need references for the posthumous awards mentioned. --damiens.rf 12:11, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article also mentions a public school named after here. This should be referenced. We should search for some online official listing of public schools in NY. I'll try that. --damiens.rf 12:45, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth

[edit]

The source "Latina Legacies : Identity, Biography, and Community" says that there's scarce biographical information about Belpré, and her place of birth is said to be Cidra based only on an essay she wrote. I put that (lack of) info into the article. --damiens.rf 12:18, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Formating references

[edit]

I am rewriting the references to use the available templates and unify the format. Any problem? --damiens.rf 12:27, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I removed the External links section because every one of them are rotten links that lead to Error 404 pages. Some problem? --damiens.rf 12:28, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Homage language

[edit]

It that encyclopedic language?

"Belpré's name lives on in the fields of Latino and American librarianship and Latino and children's literature as a source of inspiration."

This makes the section sound as a homage to Ms. Belpré. Wikipedia is not a place for that. Is it ok if I remove that? --damiens.rf 12:47, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The first major Juan Bobo story published in the United States

[edit]

The article states that she wrote the "first major Juan Bobo story published in the United States", but the reference is just a link pointing the reader to buy the book at Amazon.com. That does not supports what is said. I tagged as such, for a while. But the information must be removed if not properly referenced. --damiens.rf 12:50, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
