Hello all. It is my understanding that last year this page was rife with POV, unsourced info, opinion, and such. These issues have been resolved. I am a member of WikiProject Punk Music, and consider myself a major fan of the punk blues style. I have therefore contributed heavily to its citations, information, key performers, and verifiable research. I want to provide an understanding for the legitimacy of this unique subgenre, and have done much to move this article towards Wikipedia standards and quality. When I came to it awhile ago, it was very scant on citations, only listed a few bands and was more opinion than fact. I also intend to refine even further. Thanks. Pretty limited scope in this article and even labeling this a subgenre seems like a stretch to me. Also no mention of Austin punk bands like Poison 13, Sister Double Happiness or the Dicks show weak research in this area at best. 70.109.203.96 (talk) 01:54, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, feel free to contribute some additional research. I've done a lot, and I update whenever I have time. Also, previously I had thought The Dicks were just hardcore, but after your post and then looking into it I saw the connection to punk blues. Pretty cool...thanks for the tip. Note: This section archives the article when it was severely lacking in sources, and failed to meet Wikipedia standards and quality.

See also Swamp rock.

this page doesn't really offer a clear description besides 'Combines this and that' and it also doesn't mention any bands besides the White Stripes. It says it combines swamp rock with blues, however the description given for swamp rock is scant and only mentions 2 bands. If somebody could update this page with some actual example bands, and a clear description that isn't totally overlapped by the other American folk music-inspired subgenres of punk, that would be great, right now I can't really picture what this sounds like and can't seek examples. Is it up tempo Elvis with screamed lyrics? Rougher-sounding Lynyrd Skynyrd with lyrics about the overcommercialisation of NASCAR? what?

Hi...if there are no references for this subgenre, then it would be POV (point of view) original research, which is not suitable for Wikipedia. Perhaps some references, citations, media quotes etc. can be found?NatMor 20:40, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article seems like original research and neologism-coining. Three of the citation links don't work and the other three are insubstantial. If no clear, citable information shows up soon, this page should be tagged for deletion. WesleyDodds 07:47, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi WesleyDodds, another user has complained that the Allmusic.com links don't work. Arguably, when you cite a reference work, the links are a courtesy, since you can still look up the Punk Blues article on the allmusic.com website. The article is based on the allmusic.com articles, with the other sources as additional ancillary materialNazamo 21:07, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WesleyDodds, the line between neologism-coining and punk subgenres is a rather fine line to define. However, in this case there's enough material (note: much of it is, understandably, independent production) to justify its unique existence. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 165.91.57.87 (talk) 16:07, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

R.L. Burnside

[edit]

R.L. Burnside plays pure blues music. Fat Possum released one Burnside album featuring the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Is there any reason at all for him to be mentioned in this article?

If this article has to exist (which it shouldn't), it's not going to have Burnside in it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.183.191.55 (talk) 06:03, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest taking him out of the "key players" to a new "icons" or "influences" paragraph, along with Junior Kimbrough, T-Model Ford, and the Detroit and Memphis blues scenes that were strong influences on "proto punk blues" bands such as the Gories or the Panther Burns. Be back to contribute to it if there's agreement !84.97.218.101 (talk) 15:07, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Black Keys

[edit]

Shouldn't The Black Keys be included in this article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.245.68.21 (talk) 20:15, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. They fall more under the blues rock category. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nfdgoisn (talkcontribs) 06:54, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The black keys have a mixture of indie rock in their blues style, but punk isn't really a thing they played much. The black keys have been labeled a punk blues band because of the white stripes being compared to them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JHINDELAWARE (talkcontribs) 00:13, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thee Headcoats / Billy Childish

[edit]

Similar to the above question, should Thee Headcoats or Billy Childish be mentioned here? For me, he's the epitome of punk blues and his groups have always had a following, especially in the 90s. Danregan (talk) 04:41, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Where are all the Australian bands??

[edit]

The Drones? The Scientists? These Immortal Souls? Beasts of Bourbon? Kim Salmon? Crime and the City Solution? Literally loads of Aussie bands that fit this description perfectly...and none of them are mentioned here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gablinanish (talkcontribs) 13:07, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
