I'd really like to see a good citation for the assertion about de novo tertiary structure prediction being feasable as of 2007 - it's been about 18 months since I properly studied this, but the tutors I had then were pretty dubious of it.

Once I've dug out some notes/refs I'll probably expand this a bit - certainly could do with a brief mention of circular oligopeptide structure prediction, which is pretty well establised, IIRC. Spidrak 18:40, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Massive reorganization of biomolecular structure articles

This article was moved from Tertiary structure as a result of a proposal at WT:MCB. Tertiary structure now redirects to Biomolecular structure instead. Antony-22 (talk) 20:32, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've been looking at this article as part of a contributor copyright investigation. A user copied two sentences directly from http://www.elmhurst.edu/~chm/vchembook/567tertprotein.html, one of them is more or less still there ("The tertiary structure is determined by a variety of bonding interactions between amino acid side chains"). Is there another way to word this accurately without using the source's exact wording? Alternatively if I took this sentence out would the text that follows it still make sense? The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Protein tertiary structure/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

There is no mention of protein domains within the article. I'm no expert, but I believe they are important when learning about tertiary protein structure. Leaving domains completely out of this article is like leaving out nucleosomes when talking about chromatin; or like leaving out cells when talking about tissues.

Secondary structures are NOT domains!

Domains belong in the realm of tertiary structures. Alpha helices and beta strands are secondary structure elements. Even a beta sheet (a parallel or antiparallel arrangement of beta-strands) is not a tertiary structure, it is a super-secondary structure element. I will not change it btw in order to not get punished for "vandalism". I suggest the original author or a moderator take care of that.
