Feedback from New Page Review process

[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Thank you for this new article. I recommend expanding the lead paragraph significantly, to give readers a better previous of what comes later..

Since this article duplicated the Privacy content at https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Criticism_of_Facebook, I have copied any missing content to here, and then deleted the Privacy section from that page. You will find more information about the rationale in the Talk section there - https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:Criticism_of_Facebook.

Just a minor language issue in the title. Errr, ping User:Nihil novi for grammar sanity check :) --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:01, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:Piotrus, I agree with you.
The title, "Privacy concerns of Facebook", implies that it is the Facebook organization that has concerns about privacy; whereas it is persons outside the organization, including users of Facebook, who have, and are expressing, the concerns about privacy on Facebook.
Therefore, the more appropriate title would indeed be "Privacy concerns about Facebook".
Best,
Nihil novi (talk) 08:58, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Piotrus and Nihil novi: While I do also agree "of" is the wrong preposition, "regarding" or "with" is better for consistency. (As for between "regarding" and "with", a requested move may help.) See Special:PrefixIndex/Privacy concerns.
Also, only the talk page was moved by Piotrus. The article was not moved. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 06:31, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Aseleste, I self-reverted my move for now, you are right, I must have missed the namespace. Anyway, I am find with with (Privacy concerns with Facebook). How about Nihil novi? Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:51, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Privacy concerns of FacebookPrivacy concerns with Facebook – Almost a technical move, but per the discussion above, we can also consider privacy concerns regarding Facebook. While there various redirects, the two other existing articles on related topics I found are Privacy concerns regarding Google and Privacy concerns with social networking services and once this is moved, it would be good to standardize the remaining article in the series too. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 03:28, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Any one of the three prepositions suggested so far – "about", "regarding", "with" – could convey the meaning.
"About", in this context, is synonymous with "concerning"; "having to do with"; "in connection with".
"Regarding", in this context, is synonymous with "about"; "concerning"; "in (or with) regard to".
"With", in this context, is synonymous with "concerning"; "in regard to", which is synonymous with "regarding".
In terms of economy, "with" has an advantage in comprising one syllable, as opposed to two or three with the other two prepositions.
In terms of unambiguity, I would be inclined to rate the three prepositions, in descending order: "regarding", "about", "with".
Thanks.

Reorganize Article by Section

[edit]

I am looking to reorganize the headings and subheadings into four main sections to cut back on the length of this page and create a more organized wikipedia. The proposed sections and ordering are:

  • User data concerns
  • Platform vulnerabilities
  • Investigations
  • Student concerns

This would allow for a more succinct summary in the lead along with easier search.

Refactor and Lengthen Lead Section to Include Meta

[edit]

I am thinking to refactor and lengthen the lead section to better summarize the page’s key points per Wikipedia’s suggestion. This work will be expanding upon @DOOMSDAYER520’s previous suggestion and @Sadgrove's expansion from 2/7/2021. This also entails changing the page title to “Privacy concerns with Meta Platforms Inc. [1] (also known as Meta for short)” due to the recent rebranding of Facebook to a parent company [2]. This will also stay consistent with this page dealing with all company-related matters, and not just the specific social media platform of Facebook [3].Nels9911 (talk) 02:09, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Addition of Metaverse privacy concerns

[edit]

With Facebook’s new corporate rebranding to Metaverse, the future of virtual reality technology is slowly becoming a reality. One of our primary public concerns with the Metaverse is privacy and how it will be handled within the Facebook/Meta various platforms. I think this page is the right spot to start a new section on privacy and how Meta/Facebook will handle these privacy concerns. Within the last year or so, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, and Forbes have all have written about these privacy concerns, all of which are referenced below.
