Proposed merge with Dhanush (missile)
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- To merge Dhanush into Prithvi given that the former is a variant of the latter and benefits from the context of the broader set provided on this page. Klbrain (talk) 04:02, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
Dhanush is a naval variant of Prithvi and as a result there is a large amount of overlap between the two articles. There is also quite a bit of duplication as Dhanush is covered in the Prithvi article under the heading Prithvi III. —Gazoth (talk) 13:57, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose "While the 8.5-metre-tall Prithvi-II is a surface-to-surface missile, the 11-metre long Dhanush is a ship-to-surface and ship-to-ship system."[1]. Prithvi is for the army and Dhanush is for the Navy. The history and some tech specs may overlap but thats all. these are different weapon systems and should not be merged. --DBigXrayᗙ 13:03, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
- Variants of the same missile can have slightly different dimensions and engine capacities, but that doesn't make them a significantly different weapon. The surface-launched version of BrahMos is 3 ton and has a larger booster, while the air-launched one is 2.5 ton with a smaller booster. That doesn't make it a significantly different weapon. —Gazoth (talk) 14:33, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
- It should be noted that the difference is significant enough that DRDO and mainstream media calls them with seperate names. While I note that this is not the case with BrahMos. --DBigXrayᗙ 20:28, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
- That sounds like conjecture. Is it explicitly stated anywhere that a new name was given due to differences between other Prithvi variants and Dhanush? Dhanush used to be known as Prithvi-III and even recent reports occasionally use that name. —Gazoth (talk) 22:25, 3 February 2019 (UTC)

- Agree "Dhanush is basically a naval variant of Prithvi with guidance upgrades and some changes to be accommodating on naval platforms. Also the current Dhanush page doesn't have much information to show that demands a separate page. –—InSameer (talk) 13:30, 9 March 2020 (UTC)
- Merger complete. Klbrain (talk) 04:15, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
