Critiques of Press Releases

This section could apply some of the positives and negatives to using press releases. With the current state of the journalism industry, there is an importance on writing and distributing news as quick as possible. This applies pressure to news firms who want to stay popular with their consumers so, in turn, the firm must output large quantities of news in a timely manner and report on what is trending/popular. While this is essential for these firms to stay relevant, it causes these companies to become reliant on press release material, instead of spending time on creating a unique material that can be outputted into the media. The use of press releases are efficient and save companies both time and money, however, this form of media can create a sense of stale opinions that are often shared throughout other firms because many mainstream media outlets are using the same press release material.
