I've created

which I hope makes things a little tidier than the box format currently, as it lists all those who ruled in the same era, instead of the jsut immediate predecessor and successor. Sherurcij 11:57, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The image Image:WilhelmMiklas.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

Habsburgs & Co

[edit]

Not just members of the Habsburg familiy but all members of any ruling or formerly ruling dynastic houses are banned to run for president. As far as I know, some members of the princely House of Liechtenstein are also Austrian citizens, they wouldn't be eligible as well. I changed the article accordingly. referendum

[edit]

“The president could, however, order a referendum concerning a bill passed by the legislature.”

I wonder where in the Federal Constitution it says so. Certainly not in Art 43 & 44 B-VG. --Vheissu (talk) 20:10, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Green-endorsed incumbent"

[edit]

Wording could be considered unclear. Took me a second to realise this was simply referring to the fact that VdB is currently incumbent, but to phrase it like that in a sentence, "election of [...] incumbent" could be understood as that he was already president, and then re-elected with Green party endorsement, which is of course not the case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.217.67.67 (talk) 14:47, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lists

[edit]

The list of Presidents is available both on this page and List of Presidents of Austria, there is no point in presenting the same information twice. Therefore, the table should either be removed here or the other page deleted. Skjoldbro (talk) 13:40, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Skjoldbro: Can't you go to another country and conduct your disimprovements there? No, it's not the "same information twice", this article provided a list about actual, common Presidents, while the List of Presidents of Austria provides a complete list with all officeholders, including acting Presidents and interim colleges. I added this table here as an exception, because it's extraordinarily short – there have been very view Presidents of Austria. And the German Wikipedia does it as well by the way. @Colonestarrice: How attempting to improve and standardize pages a "disimprovements"? Since the argument is that there have been few Presidents, at what point have there been too many, in order for the table to be removed again and placed solely on the list page? And the English Wikipedia does it as well by the way. Skjoldbro (talk) 08:25, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, this one's gonna have to be a quickfail. I'll go ahead and leave some comments to help guide you on how to work on this.

First, just about everything's gonna need direct citations. See WP:GACR #2, which defines it as anything likely to be challenged. In practice, this turns out to be about everything but really obvious stuff, ISBN numbers, and geographic coordinates. As a result, the sections of History, Procedure, Latest Elections, and the whole of the Powers and Duties and Incumbencies sections need more citations.

Other reference stuff: The citation to firstworldwar.com looks to fall afoul of WP:SPS. Additionally, you're gonna want to include some sources not affiliated with the Austrian government. For instance, are elements of the president's role covered by major Austrian news organizations? There's nothing wrong with the governmental sites, you just need some other sources ford source balance reasons.

I'm not sure that this meets the completeness requirement at WP:GACR, either. The history seems to drop off at 1951, and I'm sure that there's been many developments in the position since then. For instance, how has the role of the president been viewed in Austrian culture over time? Have there been any changes in the influence of the president?

These are only some prelimenary stuff. And yeah, it's a little frustrating that a lot of sources are freely available online, but sometimes those sources are needed for an article. There's been a few articles I've wanted to work on but I can't access all of the sources and yeah, it's frustrating. I'm not particularly familiar with this subject, so if you want to work on it further, maybe see if another user familiar with this matter can help improve it. 16:07, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Comments

[edit]

I am sorry, but this is going to be a quick-fail due to multiple of the following reasons:

  1. The last GA review was in October 2020, which was failed by Hog Farm for many reasons, which are still not resolved. See Talk:President of Austria/GA1.
  2. There is a lot of uncited text. Almost the entire "History" section, "Executive role", etc. have less or no citations at all. There are lot of good sources like [1], [2], [3], etc.
  3. Suggesting to request a copy-edit at WP:GOCE/REQ. There are lot of prose and WP:MOS issues
  4. Suggesting to remove the list of presidents, we have a separate article on that.
