GA on hold

[edit]

I have reviewed this article according to the requirements of the GA criteria and have placed the article on hold until the following issues are addressed. As you address each issue, either strike through the statement/place a check mark next to the issue and state how you addressed it (if necessary). If you disagree with a particular issue, state your rationale for doing so after the issue in question so a compromise can be reached.

  1. Looking at other GAs, there appears to be several types of infoboxes for buildings. Find and add the most appropriate one for the casino/resort.
  2. File:PresidentCasinoBroadwaterResortLogo.jpg needs to be reduced in size. The largest dimension of one of the sides should probably be at most 300px.
  3. I have tagged all of the free images in the article to be moved to Wikimedia Commons. If you have an account there, consider moving the images over, so that other language Wikipedias and other articles on this Wikipedia can benefit from their use.
  4. Expand on the first sentence in the lead. Single sentences shouldn't stand alone. Either add some more details, or incorporate it into the next paragraph.
  5. "In its heyday the Broadwater Beach Resort hosted movie stars, leading politicians, and top business figures as well as everyday people on vacation." I'm not sure if "heyday" is the best usage, consider rewording. "Everyday" can also be removed. Make sure to reword within the article body as well.
  6. "In 1992, President Casinos bought in and a casino riverboat and then barge were added and the name changed." Consider rewording to "In 1992, President Casinos bought a stake in the casino, and after changing the name, added a casino riverboat and barge." or something to that effect.
  7. "He openly ran a casino within the hotel, as even though it was nominally illegal at the time[2] gambling..." Add a comma after "time".
  8. "When it opened in 1965, it was considered state of the art." What was considered state of art? Specify so readers don't get confused.
  9. "President Casinos then bought in, and the..." Reword to "President Casinos then bought a controlling stake..." or something to that effect. "Bought in" is not very descriptive.
  10. "It was the second casino to open on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, following the Isle of Capri Casino by two weeks." "following the Isle of Capri Casino which opened two weeks earlier."
  11. "...3,375 condo units, 1,900 hotel rooms, an 18 hole golf course, large..." "18-hole"
  12. See if any relevant external links can be added to the article.
  13. The article is currently in Category:Mississippi articles missing geocoordinate data, add the coordinates if possible.

Altogether, this article was informative on the topic and is well-sourced. Good job with finding so many free images to include in the article. I have left the article on hold for seven days for the issues to be addressed. These issues should be easy to fix and not take too long. If they are fixed in this time, I will pass the article. If not, the article may be failed and can be renominated at WP:GAN. If necessary to address the above issues, and progress is being made, an extension may be allowed. If you have any questions or when you are done, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 01:14, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for the review and I'll start addressing all your points and issues. Wasted Time R (talk) 03:54, 16 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've now gone through your comments:

  • I have addressed items 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, largely as you suggested.
  • For item 2, I scanned in a better logo image and also reduced its resolution as far the scanner software could.
  • For item 3, I don't do much with Commons but I've found that others will move images there if they think they have some general utility (not sure anyone will ever care about these ...).
  • For item 5, I removed the 'everyday' uses, but I kept 'heyday'; per this definition it fits the meaning perfectly and is not considered informal or slang.
  • For item 13, unfortunately I don't know how where geocoordinates sources are; this resort was further away from Biloxi center than any of the others, so I can't reuse coordinates for something else.

Let me know if you have any further comments and thanks again. Wasted Time R (talk) 01:40, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA passed

[edit]

Good job with addressing the above issues. I deleted the large logo, since it has been replaced with the new one. There are thousands of images waiting to be transferred to Commons, so it may be a while before these move over. Hopefully more bots are developed to help out. In the future, make sure to upload any free images at Commons instead. You never know what article an image can be used on or in which different language Wikipedia (or even other websites). If you can remember where the resort was located, you can use Google Earth to locate its coordinates (that's what I did for List of tallest buildings in San Diego). Thanks for providing the "heyday" link, I hear it used occasionally, and it was beneficial for explaining the rationale for keeping it. Continue to improve the article, making sure that all new information is properly sourced and neutral. Be sure to update the access dates for the online sources every once in a while to keep up with any dead links.

Also, to anyone that is reading this review, please consider reviewing an article or two at WP:GAN to help with the very large backlog. Instructions can be found here. Each new reviewer that helps to review articles will help to reduce the time that articles wait to be reviewed. If you are new to reviewing and want to familiar yourself with the process, study the GA criteria, look at other editors' reviews, and leave any questions you have at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations if you need feedback while performing a review.

Keep up the good work, and I hope that you continue to bring articles up to good article status. If anyone disagrees with this review, an alternate opinion can be sought at Good article reassessment. If you have any further questions about this review, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. I have updated the article history to reflect this review. --Happy editing! Thanks for the guidance on coordinates, they have been added. Wasted Time R (talk) 12:43, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
