Technical/niche article

[edit]

I got linked here from the torque wrench article and found it difficult to parse despite a reasonable understanding of how torque wrenches function. Not sure it deserves a whole article especially given how much domain specific language it uses. NativeForeigner Talk 05:34, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(1) I wrote this article precisely because I wanted to understand how the preload is achieved. (2) The sources are listed at the bottom; if you feel that there is an issue with WP:GNG, please let me know. (3) The article is not about the torque wrench or its design at all: the wrench is just one tool to achieve the desired preload. Most of the time the torque while tightening the nut is a reasonable proxy of the preload. Typically, lots of bolts are used, so that statistically ("gambling") the desired robustness is achieved. In many cases, the torque wrench cannot be used. (4) This article lists the methods of preload control. I did not find a good place for this information elsewhere in Wikipedia, thus a separate article. Викидим (talk) 08:41, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
