Pro people
[edit]Pravir Chandra Bhanj Deo was known for his pro people policies and agitations. Request authors to add more info on this legend.
I worked for quite some time in the neighbouring areas of Orissa. I have seen Gonds of three districts worshipping his photo with veneration.
Prabhir Chandra Bhanj Deo was born into the princely family of Mayurbhanj in north Orissa. He was adopted by the Maharaja of Bastar.
I heard that the actual death toll was in hundreds if not in thousands. Is it true?

Supposedly "the neutrality of this article is disputed". Who is disputing it? It seems undeniable that Pravir Chandra's death was at the hands of police, and his political activities prior to that must be assumed to have led to that. In The Hindu ref, it is clear that there are allegations that Pravir Chandra and his followers attacked the police but as he had succeeded politically four years earlier against the Congress Party, it is hardly likely that any such attack could have been seen as potentially lethal.
This is the same story for centuries around the world as better-armed colonists have oppressed indigenous people. And even today his great-nephew is fighting the same oppression against tribals. -- Sarlo (talk) 17:00, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
Other side of the story
[edit]I remember reading about killing of Pravir Chandra Bhanj Deo in 1966 in Hindi newspapers and in Blitz. My sympathy then, and of many newspaper readers, was with Bhanj Deo. However there is the other side: the police and the Congress administration. I will try to reconstruct the details during the next few months. He has already been removed as the Maharaja by the administration, and his nephew was declared as the official Maharaja. The police was trying to arrest him. I think it was an unfortunate situation that could have been avoided by both sides. Malaiya (talk) 05:34, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
