Explanation for split

[edit]

The Rolls-Royce RB.44 Tay article was originally at Pratt & Whitney J48. It was moved in 2007 by User:N328KF, with the edit summary "moved Pratt & Whitney J48 to Rolls-Royce Tay (turbojet): splitting Rolls-Royce Tay into Rolls-Royce Tay (turbojet) and Rolls-Royce Tay (turbofan) articles; this article will be the basis for the former". The history of the engines is actually a bit more convoluted than that. RR designed the Tay at PW's request, and PW did the primary development on the engine. RR never produced any Tays for production, and British aircraft never used the Tay as a production engine. But rather than attempting to move the article back to Pratt & Whitney J48, I decided it would be better to handle expanding the J48 info as a split, having received a new book on PW engines today. I also intend to expant the Tay article to better cover the Verdon, if I can find any info on it, and fill out the specs with the Tay or Verdon's info. - BilCat (talk) 03:10, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
