Cleanup on March 12, 2009

[edit]

Below are my, rather extensive, notes on the cleanup of this article (which had been tagged since September 2006).

Keeping in mind that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, I have tried to make the distinction between Pratap Naik and the Thomas Stephens Konkkni Kendr (TSKK) clear in the cleanup of the article. The presentation prior to the cleanup was rather blurred in this regard.

Wikipedia policies adhered to during the cleanup

[edit]

As with any cleanup, I have followed the Wikipedia policies listed below. In this case, since Pratap Naik is a living person, I have pursued the Wikipedia policy on [[biographies of living persons primarily.

Section-wise cleanup notes

[edit]
  • Section titled Teaching Konkani
The material was completely about the TSKK, and not about Pratap Naik, who this article is about. The text from this section would be much more appropriate in the article on Thomas Stephens Konkkni Kendr itself.
    • Sub-Section titled "Jesuit interest"
The quotes attributed to Pratap Naik in this sub-section were left out-of-context without the parent section (Teaching Konkani), which was one reason I deleted the text. In addition, neither of the quotes had any citations/references supplied for Verifiability; I was not able to find references to the quotes myself via a Google search.
  • Section titled TSKK, proposed in 1978 (renamed to Founding of the TSKK)
Language and style edits mostly. I have added tags that ask for citation and clarifications. Added relevant information about Thomas Stephens too. Some wikification of text too.
  • Section titled New premises, at Alto Porvorim (renamed to On the activities of the TSKK)
Again, the material originally in this section did not pertain to Pratap Naik, but instead the TSKK.
  • Section titled Training for scholastics
Added a "citation needed" tag, and also moved the second paragraph that was in this section to the previous section - it appears to fit better there.
  • Section titled Plants, botany issues
I have deleted this section entirely since I only found one source for this information, i.e., an archived email (URL: http://www.mail-archive.com/vascokarsunited@yahoogroups.com/msg00804.html). This email is, however, not acceptable as a reference as per the Wikipedia policies on Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:No original research (linked above).
  • Section titled Jesuit traditions
This section has been deleted in it's entirety too since there were a lot of quotes with no references. The only reference i found was a blog (URL: http://gsbkonkani.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html, article title is "Priest with green thumb preserves Goa's natural wealth"). Blogs, however, are not acceptable as references as per the Wikipedia policy on Self-published sources (online and paper).
  • External links
Deleted the link to a Google search that had keywords "Pratap" "Naik."

Citation needed tags

[edit]

If any editors are able to provide acceptable references to the statemented tagged with [citation needed] tags within the next few weeks it would be much appreciated. In case the statements are not suitable referenced, I will delete these as per Wikipedia policy.
